Guy Fawkes, one of the conspirators (today they would be called terrorists) in the attempted plot to blow up the House of Parliament on November 5, 1605 protesting James I dealings with English Catholics, was caught guarding the gunpowder in a hiding place under the House of Lords. The event is commemorated every year with fireworks and burning effigies of Guy Fawkes in bonfires. Some of the English have been to known to wonder if they are celebrating Fawkes execution or honoring his attempt to do away with the government. Several grand laddies arrived bedecked in their kilts as was himself. We ate hearty from the limited menu and drank the sweet offerings from the bar. Hidden amongst the pick-up band members was a Scot who could play a wee bit of Flower of Scotland and a couple of other Scots tunes on those under-the-arm pipes. As the evening galloped to a close, we all joined hands ‘round the table and sang Auld Lang Synge with himself leading us out in his strong baritone. <o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

The video parallels a medieval knight and a modern officer putting on their equipment; their boots, gloves and shields, and is set to the great tune “The Corgi” by John Walsh. “City Knights” is produced monthly and broadcast on </SPAN><st1:City><st1:place><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">St Paul</SPAN></st1:place></st1:City></FONT><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><BR><FONT color=#000000>cable channel 18.<BR>The St Paul Police Department submitted their show to a competition sponsored by the Law Enforcement Video Association; open to police and fire departments from the </FONT></SPAN><FONT color=#000000><st1:country-region><st1:place><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">USA</SPAN></st1:place></st1:country-region><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"> and </SPAN><st1:country-region><st1:place><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">Canada</SPAN></st1:place></st1:country-region></FONT><SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><FONT color=#000000>. On October 17 it was announced that the show had won a silver medal for the music category as well as a silver medal for<BR>“Community Relations – Long”. <BR>The pipers on the recording are Bob Lies, Joe Hawthorn and Al Innes. Board members reviewed a successful year of performance and growth and thanked the membership for making it all happen.<BR>The most notable event at this year's Annual General Meeting was the<BR>election of officers. Klaus Hinrichsen joined John Saucke, Sally Gordon and John Gibbs on the Board. Klaus was elected to a 3-year term to replace Vicky Munro whose term had ended. Many thanks go to Vicky for all her hard work. Merlin Zimmerman was re-elected to the position of Drum Sergeant/Vice<BR>President for his second 3-year term. Dr. Michael (Mick) McCoy was elected for a 3-year term to the position of Pipe Major/President replacing Bob Lies who chose not to run for re-election.<BR>Bob has this to say about his decision not to seek re-election: "I accomplished most of what I set out to accomplish with the band, and am pleased to turn over a vibrant and healthy organization to the new Pipe Major. I think Mick's musical vision for the band will bring good things to the group and its performers. I look forward to supporting the band and the new leadership in any way I can."<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

On and around one such beach on the northern side of the island a ghostly dog has been seen and heard several times. The dog is large and black and usually makes itself heard first with a strange, hollow-sounding bark.
